Scent Families

Fragrances are also classified into different scent families based on their predominant notes.

Floral

The largest fragrance family, characterized by the scent of fresh flowers like rose, jasmine, lily, and lavender. It ranges from light, sweet florals to rich and complex bouquets.

Oriental

Rich, warm, and exotic scents that include spices like cinnamon and vanilla, as well as amber, musk, and incense. Subcategories include floral oriental and woody oriental.

Fresh

Clean and refreshing scents that evoke citrus (like lemon and bergamot), green (like freshly cut grass), or aquatic (oceanic, sea breeze) notes.

Fruity

Bright and juicy, this family includes the scents of fruits such as apple, peach, berries, and tropical fruits like mango and pineapple.

Woody

Characterized by earthy, warm, and dry notes, this family includes sandalwood, cedarwood, vetiver, and patchouli. Woody fragrances can also be combined with floral or oriental notes.

Gourmand

This family consists of edible, dessert-like notes such as vanilla, caramel, chocolate, and coffee. It creates sweet, rich, and sometimes indulgent fragrances.
